Santa Fe Celebrates Arthur Sze
This year’s Poet Laureate is Santa Fean Arthur Sze! For the Santa Fe New Mexican, Sze shares, “My excitement about poetry is that kind of intensity and confluence of emotion, imagination, and working with language; they all come together with compression and musicality in a poem. My hope is that in 15 or 20 lines, a really good poem can feel like it’s got the expanse of a story, or even a novel. Every word, every sound, even every silence matters in a poem.”
Santa Fe’s artists, writers, educators, and artistic leaders shared their enthusiasm with the Santa Fe New Mexican. Kate had the pleasure of contributing: “Sze’s career is an inspiration to SFCC students and faculty alike, and it is an honor to see our city — and our poets — celebrated on the national stage. We wish Arthur Sze an amazing year ahead, and we look forward to reading and discussing his work in our classrooms — just as we always have.”
